Project Director

Marcelo MorettiMarcelo Moretti, Assistant Professor of Weed Science, Department of Horticulture, Oregon State University. Dr. Moretti serves as the statewide research and extension specialist for weed science in perennial horticultural crops. Dr. Moretti’s research program is focused on integrated weed management aiming to develop strategies that are effective and economical to manage weeds in organic and conventional production systems.

Co-Project Directors

Erica ChernohErica Chernoh, Assistant Professor of Practice, Oregon State University Extension in Lane County, Oregon is responsible for commercial and community horticulture in the south Willamette Valley. She coordinates the Master Gardener program in Lane County, and also leads the OSU Berry Initiative at the North Willamette Research and Extension Center in Aurora. She will organize extension events, assist with surveys, develop extension materials, and participate in national extension efforts.

Brittney GoodrichBrittney Goodrich, Assistant Professor in Cooperative Extension in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California Davis. Dr. Davis grew up in a rural farming community in Iowa where uncertainty in agricultural production and marketing influenced family and friends on a daily basis. Consequently, she has always been intrigued by the choices farmers make to address uncertainty in their operations, and am particularly interested in researching how individuals within the agricultural supply chain use contracts to manage risk and align incentives. She will lead the economic and profitability analysis of the project.

Brad HansonBrad Hanson, Professor of Cooperative Extension, University of California Davis. seeks integrated approaches to weed management using chemical, cultural, biological/cultural, and physical manipulations of the cropping system. As a Cooperative Extension Specialist, he works in collaboration with farmers, farm advisors, faculty, and other specialists in order to effectively and efficiently serve the statewide perennial crop industries. He will lead the field research and extension efforts in California.

Lynn SosnoskieLynn Sosnoskie: Assistant Professor, School of Integrative Plant Science Horticulture Section Cornell AgriTech. Dr. Sonsoskie's lab is focused on studying the biology, ecology, and management of weed in specialty crop systems. She will will provide expertise in weed biology and will lead the field research and extension efforts in New York state.

Linda Brewer: Linda Brewer is a 2001 graduate of Oregon State University, holds an MS in Soil Science and is a certified professional soil scientist. She works in the Department of Horticulture at OSU as a senior faculty research assistant, managing and evaluating federal grants, and translating research findings into grower-useful documents. She will will assist with data management, reporting, and development of extension materials.

Formiga

Alice Formiga: Alice Formiga is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University and is the director of eOrganic, which is an online community that publishes articles, videos, webinars and online courses about organic farming and research at https://eorganic.info. She will assist the project in conducting webinars and online extension and outreach.

Graduate Students

Luisa Baccin: Ph.D. student at the Department of Horticulture, Oregon State University, with experience in the weed science field. As a Graduate Research Assistant, she works on many projects under Dr. Moretti’s supervision in perennial horticultural crops. Her research aims to evaluate electric weed control in organic blueberry production and the effects of electricity on the control of different species of weeds.
